Welcome to the Danville Little House

Our mission is to provide for the upkeep, maintenance and operation of the Danville Little House.

The building was built in 1937 and named St Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1949, some Girl Scout Leaders Husbands negotiated with the Church to buy their old property for $8000. Through the generosity of Danville clubs and organizations, ten business men, parents of the Girl Scouts and a camping fund, earned by the girls themselves, $3750 had been raised. Father McLaughlin offered an additional $500 as the Church’s donation to the community project. A Board of Directors was enlisted, who agreed to administer funds and attend to legal matters pertaining to the Little House.

The Little House is the hub for all that is Danwood Girl Scouts which includes Mill Creek and Danville School Districts. Currently we have about 150 girls in Scouts this year and another 50 adult volunteers. Over the years, the Little House has served as the meeting place for several different nonprofit organizations. The Little House was a voting site for elections but they had to relocate because the Little House was not ADA compliant.

We partnered with the Danville Rotary Club and the United Way of Central Indiana in 2014 to complete phase one of our major revamp of our building. UW provided a grant for supplies and volunteers to paint the exterior of our building. The Rotary Club provided matching funds for the much needed repairs to the roof, foundation, lowering the ceiling, insulating both rooms, painting the interior and providing volunteers and professionals to make the repairs and total funding of $11,000.
